All Products - PV Not Generating - Troubleshooting

If your PV should be generating but you are seeing no power in your system power flow this article will outline some steps on how to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

No Normal Light

If the system is not in normal mode visible via the normal LED above the screen then this will prevent the system from alowing power to flow and as a result no generation will push through the inverter.

MPPT Voltage

If the voltage on the MPPTs is below the push through voltage threshold (also known as Startup Voltage) there will be no generation output. Generally this is 125V per MPPT but please check your user manual or datasheet for inverter specific values. You can check this on your inverter screen by selecting the AC Load dial on the home screen and checking the voltage readings in the Solar Power tab. Similarly, if the AC voltage is too high and is reading above the maximum PV Input Voltage for your inverter then this can disable export and can also risk damaging the MPPT inputs.

Low voltage can be caused by cloudy weather, shading, damage to the cables connected to the solar panels/MC4 connectors or due to an internal fault

Power Demand / Export

Sometimes the issue can be that there is no power demand for the PV generation to cover, especially if you do not have solar export enabled and your batteries are fully charged. If there is nowhere for the power to flow then the inverter will prevent any generation.

  • Check solar export is enabled in Settings>System Mode if you are wanting to export excess solar. Also check your Work Mode in the System Mode settings, if you are in Zero Export + Limit to Load then this will prevent any solar export and will only provide power to the essential loads connected to the inverter load terminals
  • Check that your CT readings on your system power flow are reading a house load and grid power - you can do this by clicking on the AC Load dial on the home screen and checking the Grid Power section and the Load Power section.

Firmware Update

Sunsynk inverters generally have two firmware sets to keep updated, one for the LCD/Comms and one for the MCU. If these firmwares are incompatible then it can result in the system not operating correctly. Speak to our Support team if you need to confirm whether your system has incompatible or out of date firmware to rule this out as a cause of no generation.

If there are load readings and/or the batteries are not at 100% SOC but there is still no PV generation and the above steps have all been taken please rasie a ticket with our Support team for further assistance.
